A real nice slab of Banded Onyx from Arizona. The colors are, brown, tans and creamy white. Onyx is also found in black to almost any color. The Arizona mines are located near Prescott, Mayer and Ash Fork. There are mines in Chihuahua, Puebla, and Oaxaca, Mexico. Onyx usually has parallel banding and is a much softer stone than agate which has curved banding and translucent. Onyx is formed from dissolved limestone and redeposited as a new kind of stone. Onyx is cut and carved for jewelry and beautiful beads. Width 5 1/4″. Height 2 7/8″. Thickness 1/4″. Weight 7.6 oz. (2) Photo taken wet in natural sunlight.
